Senate Hearing, Jan. 24th
Senate to review US Airways bid
US Airways' hostile bid for Delta Air Lines moves into the political realm this week when a U.S. Senate panel explores the potential effect of industry consolidation on fares, air service and jobs.
US Airways CEO Doug Parker and Delta CEO Gerald Grinstein will testify at Wednesday's hearing before the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science and Transportation, chaired by Sen. Daniel K. Inouye, D-Hawai'i.
Federal regulators, consumer advocates and economists are also on the witness list.
The deal would create the nation's largest domestic carrier. Delta, already the United States' third-biggest carrier, wants to remain independent.

Toothpast threat
Tell me again about the upside of this program? It's called political pay-off. People that are in the business give money to your campaign and in return you make this program mandatory (or significantly burdensome not to participate in) and then you make MONEY, see?

This is my passport. . . This is my hammer. . .
All passports issued by the US State Dept will have always on radio frequency ID chips in them after Jan. 1, 2007. This feature will make it easy for terrorists to ID you anywhere in the world. Although tampering with a passport is a crime punishable by up to 25 years in prison, some will find it necessary to protect their own and their family's personal safety abroad by disabling the chip. Don't put it in a microwave. It may cause a fire. A non working RFID chipped passport is still useable.
