You know, it's funny. . .when I wrote my screenplay, I had to blow up the moon to change the orbit of the earth to avoid a strike (change the mass of one, change the orbit of the other), just for a split second, mind you,(think of a tetter-totter and what happens when one child gets off) and the mass of the moon came back together immediately, or almost so, but it played hell with the tides, (I'll give you that). . . it was a great exercise, but since then, I'm convinced, I made it more real by fleshing out the details and now everytime I hear one of these stories. . .I just cringe.
