Secret databases being created on Americans
The Wall Street Journal
June 16, 2005
"TSA became aware that, through Secure Flight, there were essentially secret databases being created on Americans, and that's a very clear violation of the Privacy Act," said Marc Rotenberg, the executive director of the Electronic Privacy Information Center, a Washington, D.C., advocacy group.
Secure Flight is scheduled to begin with two airlines participating in August, and is to include all American carriers by the end of 2006, Mr. Oberman said. The TSA has chosen the first two airlines but has not yet announced who they are.
Late yesterday, representatives of UAL Corp.'s United Airlines, US Airways Group Inc., Southwest Airlines, and Delta Air Lines said THEY weren't participating in the rollout. (who does that leave, hum?)
